Lindsey, Luke & Simba: Tennessee Portrait Session

Category:

I’ve known Lindsey for about 10+ years and even lived with her family for a time. She is an incredibly driven individual, one of my dearest friends and like a sister to me. So when her parents contacted me last year about scheduling a session to make Christmas a little more special I was thrilled to be a part of it!

Lindsay and Luke have a bond like no other. Luke use to be, in more or less words, a bit of a menace🤣 But with Lindsay’s patience and training they were able to Event together for many years and she is Luke’s person. That horse adores her and vice versa. And they’ve been through a lot together. Lindsey has incredible stories of her and Luke running into some Civil War ghosts in Alabama, and lots of laughs and smiles of other adventures at horse shows and beyond.

One thing we incorporated into their session was a very messy but hilarious snack of fries dipped in a Wendy’s Frosty. It use to be a favorite of Luke’s after a horse show, but he was a bit unsure of it during the session as you can see!

Simba is an OTTB (Off The Track Thoroughbred) who raced for 8 years and miraculously stayed sound. Lindsey worked really hard to untrain the racing brain on him and has given him a great semi-retired life. When I lived with Lindsey’s family I worked with Simba on a weekly basis. He is a character and is always getting into trouble and causing mischief. He enjoys just being messed with though, and we found out he loves Sour Patch Kids, Donuts, Redbull, coffee and a host of other things. I might have created a monster when I was there by giving him all the goodies though, because he has stolen Lindsey’s dad’s coffee a time or two!

I will always sound like a broken record by stressing the importance of capturing memories with your equine partner. Life is precious. Every day is a gift even if it feels like a “White Elephant Gift” sometimes. Cherish the little victories and the soft pony muzzles you snuggle. The mornings you get to wake up, and the quiet evenings with family. The smell of the barn and the love you give and get. Life is really tough, but hang in there.
